The federal government enacted the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) also called Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act to protect active military from legal action from banks, credit card companies and other businesses. The act protects all active duty Military as well as protection for up to one year after service. Covered under the act are: Airman, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines as well as coast guard personnel.
The SCRA provides a number of financial and credit protections to military service members while they are serving their country. Those on active duty or called to new duty stations often find it difficult to be physically present for civil proceedings and to meet their financial and legal obligations at home. The SCRA protects service members’ legal and economic interests by providing for the temporary suspension of certain legal and administrative actions.
The SCRA applies to any judicial or administrative proceeding in the United States and its territories, including both federal and state courts and administrative agencies, excluding criminal proceedings. Kyros Law is investigating potential violations of the SCRA by various lending and banking institutions. If you have questions about the SCRA, or believe that you were denied your rights under the law then please call 1-800-934-2921 Ask for Attorney Bill Kyros.
